How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer

Establishing your priorities will make it much easier to find a photographer who will capture your big day just the way you want!

Before you start searching for a wedding photographer, decide what kind of wedding photography you want and the price range you would like to stay in. Different wedding photographers specialize in different types of photography and have their own recognizable style. Do you want a drone? How about day-of production? Knowing these things before you look will help you get accurate quotes.

A lot of South Asian couples prefer plain and simple photojournalistic wedding photos over extravagant images that are bursting with colors and artistic effects. Some even prefer hiring amateurs just because they have more affordable prices. If you just want basic, candid images, then you should target photographers who specialize in that type of photography. If your top priority is a lower price tag, then look for amateur photographers that won’t charge a lot. These photographers are mainly looking for more experience and shooting your wedding will help them build their portfolio. However, if you want higher quality photos with a strong artistic flavor, then you should be prepared to spend a bit more on a professional photographer who has an expansive artistic portfolio.

Regardless of budget, be sure to do a lot of research on their past photos (both wedding and not wedding) as you can and choose a photographer whose images you like the most. Finally, we recommend that you do a test photo shoot just to see if the quality meets your expectations and if you feel confident enough while working with a specific photographer.
